HP | Showroom
Design Integration and Development
Goodby Silverstein and Partners tasked Oasis with developing strategic recommendations along with a rapid prototype for a site to support HP’s introduction of their TouchSmart PC. One of the key objectives was to also provide users with an immersive experience that featured the smooth transitions that are native to flash applications but without using flash. From prototype to execution, Oasis found ways to work with different technologies which enabled the original concept to be flawlessly executed.
The intent of the site was to provide a seamless front-end user experience for HP to show off their latest products. In order to demonstrate the different products released by HP, the HP Showroom site needed to provide the user with an easy to use, intuitive, and fun approach to reviewing information. While the standard approach is to layer the different products, the concept warranted by the creative was to give the impression that the products were on a linear plane, giving the user a perspective of actually being in a showroom while looking from left to right.
In order to judge this project a success, Oasis had to deliver a final build that used technologies other than Flash to ensure a site that was easily accessible for all users across various operating systems and bandwidth speed. Another objective was to develop a smooth, flash-like browser light experience while delivering a user-friendly interface. In addition to meeting these expectations, the final site was recognized by the Massachusetts Innovation and Technology Exchange (MITX) as best in show in the technology category for its 2008 MITX Technology Awards.

IA, Discovery, CMS Integration
Rather than develop a campaign site or microsite for HP’s printing business, Oasis was given the task of blazing a new trail. Although the Google gadget for HP’s Project Direct campaign had previously been developed using AJAX, there hadn’t been a flash Gadget made for the campaign yet. Oasis was tasked with completing the flash gadget for the campaign.
Leveraging the YouTube Data API, which was relatively new during the campaign timing, Oasis was tasked with creating a flawless front-end user experience that would create a poster-marker from YouTube videos in an effort to promote HP’s industry leading printing products.
This project leveraged multiple technologies to provide the functionality for the gadget’s features, combining Flash, JavaScript and PHP on the backend. Some items that differentiate this include dynamically generating a PDF directly from Flash that users download to their desktop and then print. The user can also print directly from Flash with all of their customized data into their chosen template.
In the end, it was a great way of giving users the opportunity to create a poster for their favorite YouTube video.
