Our Work

NICHQ improves message consistency across multiple websites and delivers better overall user experience

The National Initiative for Children’s Healthcare Quality (NICHQ), an independent, nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the quality of children’s healthcare, chose Agency Agency Oasis to develop their public website, nichq.org. Previously, Agency Oasis had worked with NICHQ to consolidate their various web sites onto the Sitecore platform for consistency and operational efficiency. The logical next step was to migrate their public site to Sitecore as well, giving it a fresh graphic look, updated content, and a better overall user experience.

Challenge

NICHQ’s original public website was complex and difficult for departments to collaborate with each other. The site was outdated, difficult to navigate, and content was buried multiple levels deep. NICHQ’s audiences had trouble finding information and NICHQ’s internal staff had issues with editing the content and keeping the site up to date.

Strategy

Agency Oasis recommended a complete overhaul of the information architecture, design and infrastructure. To identify the key audiences NICHQ was trying to reach, Agency Oasis facilitated a discovery process that unearthed the primary personas that engaged with NICHQ as well as the content that was pertinent to them. The team discovered two drastically different audiences: (1) potential funders of NICHQ who are interested in their mission and high-level validation that the NICHQ process works, and (2) end-users who utilized the content to further the conversation and enact change within their communities.

To speak to the unique audiences appropriately, Agency Oasis created a tiered Sitecore structure that allowed users to easily traverse between the corporate site and the NICHQ topic sites. To achieve this, Agency Oasis architected the topic sites under the main corporate site, allowing NICHQ to easily add many topic sites. Each topic site has a unique set of defined templates as well as a customizable navigation structure. The end user can access any of the sites through a persistent pinned element in the header that houses all topics, popular resources, and newly published content.

The new website design is able to personalize the user experience, drawing relevant content from all sites.  Unique navigation elements make it easy for site visitors to find exactly what they want without sacrificing design consistency. The home page of the site has a unique grid feature for all different kinds of content, allowing new site visitors to explore all the different things NICHQ offers. This grid is also filterable, letting users find easily find relevant content and browse through other areas.

Using Sitecore as a solution, Agency Oasis built a website that allowed for a better, more streamlined content entry process across multiple departments. The website relies on intelligent usability on the front-end as well as a good authoring experience in Sitecore. Both the user interface and the strategic approach to the Sitecore architecture provided NICHQ with an scalable and flexible platform that allows for easy growth over time. 

Results

  • Customers have responded positively about the ability to explore the site rather than just go to one area for specific content. Average page-depth per visit and average time on site has increased since the new site launched
  • The results comparing NICHQ’s Sept 2014 customer satisfaction survey vs. the 2013 survey showed a 10% increase in the proportion of customers who answered “satisfied” or “very satisfied” with NICHQ’s products and services.
  • Content Editors are overwhelmingly positive about using the easier-to-use interface, flexibility, and intuitive design of the new architecture. For example, new page creation time has been reduced to days versus months.
  • Site managers can now easily cross-promote related content and deliver a significantly better user experience, resulting in stronger overall visitor engagement.
